Rob Raker photo© Greg Epperson Rob Raker is one of the most talented athletes on the planet. This seems like a mighty strong statement, but for those who know Raker, it's not far off the mark. Rob seemed to be able to climb better than anyone, and usually without trying too hard. Now that sounds like something that might piss his friends off, but his non-assuming nature, sincere enthusiasm, boundless energy, and friendly disposition left us "riding the wave" instead of spiteful. If the climb seemed to hard, too scary, or too tricky, send Raker up on it. Raker was the real deal, a real superman, and a true superhero. Even Superman has his kryptonite, and Raker did crash and burn every now and then, with heavy dues to boot. He once pulled too hard on a climb (or some other athletic endeavor) that his index finger resembled his thumb for a year or so. And that time he hit a tree skiing showed him down, way down, and even gave him a memory loss for a while. Raker is one of those kind of guys that sort of has to pull in the reins every now and then, or he'll wreck his body from over-use or "too much fun." Don't be fooled though, by any of his small set backs. He can climb you into the ground with a cast on his leg. Go bike riding with him and you'll see nothing but his ass and then, just his bike tracks. He's traveled everywhere, climbed everything, and has dabbled at all sort of cool activities. He's been doing a lot of filming lately, including underwater stuff and lots of adventure filming that alot of camera men don't have the fitness or the sac to get the shots. He's filmed the adventure race Survival of the Fittest stuff for T.V.....and the athletes are probably wondering how this camera guy can keep up with them at their race, carrying a heavy camera with him. Good thing for them that he's not a contestant, or they'd be going down. Raker likes a friendly contest and he doesn't like to lose. |
