Grant Hiskes

Grant Hiskes

Grant has lived in the climbing world his whole life. At a very early age, Grant, like many others, visited the valley at a very early age. 20 years later, Grant still can be found in Yosemite year after year during the season.

Grant was on Yosemite Search and Rescue for a decade or so, and teaches wilderness first responder classes, as well as worked as a paramedic, so if you have a climbing accident, hope that Grant is around. There is a good chance he will be, because he is presently a member of Joshua Tree's search and rescue team.

Grant has been a professional guide for Yosemite Mountaineering Climbing School and various other Joshua Tree climbing schools. His patient and articulate manner makes him a natural teacher, and his knowledge of first aid, and anything to do with climbing has been shared by many.

Grant is a new route activist, and his name is associated with many first ascents throughout California, particularly Yosemite, Tuolume meadows, many Eastern Sierra crags, Sonora Pass (which he authored a guidebook to this area), and of course, Joshua Tree.

Cragging, mountaineering, Big Walls, desert towers, first ascents; Grant does it all. He has spent many winters at Joshua Tree, and lately, spends a majority of the year at Joshua Tree.

For years, Grant was sort of the main proprietor of the Gordon Ranch, basically more or less running the place for the seldom seen owner, Todd Gordon (CEO joshuatreeclimb.com)

His cooking skills are famous throughout the climbing world, and his friendly nature and wealth of experiences and knowledge, have made Grant Hiskes a major influence in the California climbing world. Grant has the climbing world and lifestyle down.
