Don Reid
photo© Greg Epperson Don Reid's name will always be associated with Yosemite Valley, because Don is the author of the Yosemite and Tuolumne Guide Books. The Yosemite Guide is one of the best guidebooks ever written, and the lofty mark that other guidebook authors aim for.
Donnie lived for easily a decade in the Valley and was the Head guide for Yosemite Mountaineering. His knowledge of Yosemite and Tuolumne Meadows is close to unparalleled, and his attention to detail in his guides is a reflection on his quest for excellence and the highest quality. Reid is a professional guide, a professional author, and a quality individual that has picked a path in life for himself that is purely from his heart and soul. He is very involved in the AMGA guide certification process, and of course, a certified guide himself. On top of being a top-notch guide and author, Donnie is a very talented, smooth, accomplished, and well traveled climber. His ability to make hand moves look easy, and hang on forever while figuring out a sequence or crux, is well known among his many, many friends and climbing partners. His ability to read rock, assess climbing moves and situations, trouble shoot problems, and get up tricky, difficult climbs comes from decades of experience and thousands and thousands of climbs. Plain and simple, Donnie rules and kicks butt. Along with his climbing life, Donnie is a great musician, awesome from man for any rock and roll band, and has been playing rock and roll in many infamous bands, the ERRATICS and THE CACTUS PRICKS, to name a few. Recently married, Donnie and his lovely wife Karen (a talented climber and adventurer too!), live in Joshua Tree. |
