Chris Miller has to be one of the most active modern Southern California climbers today. His motivation for exploration and new route activities has produced many first ascents throughout Southern California.

Not only has Chris done many new routes here in Joshua Tree, but he has also replaced old and dangerous quarter inch bolts, modernizing the area and increasing its safety. This tedious, expensive and time consuming task, which usually goes without thanks or recognition, speaks to his dedication to climbing and his commitment to the climbing community.

Chris’s knowledge of climbing in JTree and other areas is almost unparalleled, and you would be very hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable person when it comes to climbing information, climbers, climbing facts, routes, trivia, rating information etc...Chris is has encyclopedic knowledge of most anything related to do with climbing, especially in California.

A very strong, motivated climber, his talent lies unexposed behind his unassuming presence. While working for years at Nomad Ventures, the local climbing shop, Chris not only accumulated massive amounts of information about the local scene, he gradually and freely shared his wealth of knowledge and information with thousands of climbers who visited the shop, often time specifically seeking information from Chris.

Most of Chris’s routes are safe, high-quality climbs with good protection. And his new routes at Big Bear and other San Bernardino locations are high quality and some are very difficult. Presently working with 5.10 in Redlands, he continues to explore, establish quality new routes, and build on his vast knowledge of Southern California climbing.
