Off Width Crack Routes 

The off width, the fat crack, the wide crack, the evil size, the Dark side, the grinder, the handstack, the heel-toe, the inch worm, the bad size, the Beast, the Bull, The Hawk, the Ghost. If you plan to climb in the Valley, Canyonlands, or anywhere, for that matter, ya best bone down on your O W technique. If you are a climber, you will come across the wide crack every now-and-then. Even if you avoid them at all costs, you still will run into them here and there. Some people actually seek out the wide cracks (sic puppies, no doubt). Wide cracks are challenging, demanding, and fascinating to some. Climbing a wide crack usually ain't too pretty to watch, for the climbing is not graceful, gymnastic, flowing, or dance-like. They are painful, slow, awkward, irritating, and often times bloody. Here's a list of many of Joshua Tree's off width cracks. Wear long pants and long sleeves, remember to breathe, and grind away. Oh yeah; it's not going to be pretty. If you get excited over this list, seek professional help....(Yeah; that's you , Seth...) (Remember; O W cracks are hand size dependant). Please note the LACK of stars these climbs receive by the guidebook authors.
