Dikes |
Joshua Tree National Park has some awesome rock formations and very interesting geology. Many of the formations have beautiful crystallin dikes that angle across the rock faces. Often times, the only holds on the face are on these crystallin dikes, so the climbing can be exclusively on these dikes. Climbing on dikes can be very exciting, and on some climbs, can be exciting to the point of frightening. Sometimes your hands are on the dikes, sometimes your feet. Sometimes the dikes are covered with huge holds and chickenheads to tie off; other times the dikes are just tiny smears on the rock. The dike can be only a few inches wide, while others are many feet wide. Some of the dikes on one formation carry on to the next formation as well. The dike climbs at Joshua Tree Nat. Park are some of the best, most exciting, and most beautiful climbs in the whole Park. The dikes go at all angles; some straight up vertical, while others go straight horizontal. Check out this list and see how many you have done. This list contains many of Joshua Tree's famous ,celebrated, and wonderful dike climbs. Gordo's Picks | ||
